Paediatric Dentistry

The aim of paediatric dentistry is to ensure that your child’s primary teeth remain healthy and free of decay and other dental issues. Good oral hygiene habits start as early as infancy. Make sure that your child has his or her first dental visit at the age of two. This helps your dentist eliminate your child’s oral health issues while at the same time your dentist will be able to track your child’s growth and development. At our practice, we will provide you with expert tips on how to take care of your child’s teeth at home, as well as educate you about eating habits that could protect or damage your child’s teeth and gums.

Preventative Treatment (fissure sealants and fluoride treatment)

Fissure sealants protect your child’s teeth so that it may never need to be filled. It is a protective plastic coating that is applied to the chewing surface of teeth that are at risk of decay, such as the back teeth. Since back teeth have small grooves (called fissures), these grooves become difficult to clean, allowing bacteria from leftover food to create the plaque that could damage the tooth enamel if left untreated. Although toothpaste contains fluoride, in some cases the toothpaste alone can be ineffective when preventing dental decay. Therefore, anyone who is at risk of decay can now opt for fluoride treatments where fluoride is applied directly to the teeth to strengthen it.
